Hertford RFC

Hertfords’ rugby history first began in 1932 when Old Hertfordians RFC was founded by students from the local Grammar school who had a keen love for the game. At this time they had only 15 members, and although winning three of their four games, they were heavily beaten in the fourth by their own school team. Since then the club has grown from strength to strength, despite moving between grounds over the years, its spirit has remained the same. Now settled at their clubhouse on Hoe Lane, Ware the club boasts six starting teams, a ladies team, and youth teams for both boys and girls.

Hertford FC

The clubs success story begins in 1901 when the club won the Herts Junior Cup and brought it back to Hertford. At this time however the club was known as the Port Vale Rovers, this was soon changed as fans demanded the club be recognised as a part of Hertford. The newly named Hertford Town then joined forced with Hertford United to bring you the team we know today. The team today currently finished 9th in the SSML Premier Division League 2010-2011. As well as the first team Hertford FC have numerous youth teams ranging from Under 18s to Under 11s.

Hertford Cricket Club

Probably the oldest sports team in Hertford the clubs origins cannot be precisely defined, with records dating back to 1738 this is not surprising! However the club counts its origin from 1860 from which date the club has had mixed fortunes; the club moved to its home of Balls Park in 1883 and has now played there ever since. The Cricket Club now boast three sides of eleven who take part in a mixture of league, cup, and friendly cricket. They also run a cricket week every year which is always a success. Hertford Cricket are constantly looking to expand and are looking to have a fourth eleven playing for them in the very near future.

Hertford Hockey Club

Born out of the long – established Hertford Cricket Club was the Hertford Hockey  Club! It began as a way for the cricketers to keep fit during the winter season but soon became a sports team within its own right; it was constituted into a full Hockey club in 1987. Whilst some of the original members are still an active part of the club, either playing or managing the team. The club now has four men’s teams and four ladies teams. The First teams for both sexes are performing well in the East Men/ Women’s League.
